After-School Empowerment Program
Everest Value has developed its own, student-centered, after school program, which has interwoven with the school’s operational model. Many of our staff take on multiple roles in both the school and after school programs, deepening their trust and respect with students and families.
Our goal is for the Everest students to take the initiative to build their own school community, foster their own connections with teacher and parent meetings, and inspire each other. The After School Director has created many different opportunities for this student empowerment, which allows our older students to model values-based behaviors and set an example for our younger ones. Similar to staff, high-ranking student government officials even have “action step” meetings with mentor teachers to reflect and optimize their performance as student leaders.
In the Everest economic system, students to manage their own organizations, hire students, and develop their own operational plans. In our first 6 years, we’ve seen much growth in the maturity and professionalism in our student body. Our Student Leadership teams have been at the forefront of Everest’s charter renewal with LAUSD, WASC visits, and the WE CLIMB campaign to secure a permanent building.
