Everest Value School has steadily improved since its founding in 2014.  Everest uses a data-driven approach to empower its students by giving each of them a list of grade level standards and skills in student friendly language, called the Learning Key.  As each Learning Target is introduced, practiced and assessed in class, the student’s Learning Keys are updated and communicated with parents.  As students chart their progress with teachers, they are able to review previous Learning Targets and focus their attention on addressing specific skills.

The results of the Learning Key and student empowerment have been a clear. In its first year, Everest was well below LAUSD on the normative SBAC assessment.   However, in the past 5 years, Everest has more than doubled its proficiency in both Math and ELA. The chart below shows a comparison of the percentage of students earning proficiency on the SBAC between Everest and the LAUSD averages. The academic growth between 2014 and 2019 at Everest was one of the highest in Los Angeles, particularly in Math.
